Timeshare Industry Provides New Resource to Help Prepare Owners for Unwanted Solicitation Calls
Online Toolkit, Consumer Advisories, and Toll-Free Number Available to Consumers
WASHINGTON, DC – December 11, 2012 – The American Resort Development Association Resort Owners' Coalition (ARDA-ROC) announced a new resource for timeshare owners who receive marketing solicitations from companies offering to thelp transfer ownership of their timeshare. A new web page about these companies—otherwise known as transfer companies—is now available on ARDA-ROC’s website, with useful information for home owners’ associations and timeshare owners regarding these businesses and their sales and marketing practices.
The Transfer Company Information Center is designed to educate consumers on the growing practice of transferring ownership of a timeshare with the assistance of a transfer company. Besides describing the typical transfer company business model, the information center also includes a number of tools to help consumers understand if doing business with a transfer company is right for them. ARDA-ROC continues to advise due diligence prior to buying or selling a timeshare, and inform consumers to “know the facts” before agreeing to transfer ownership.
Another owner resource is ARDA-ROC’s Timeshare Resale Resource Center. The center is a one-stop source of information about the timeshare resale process and how owners can protect themselves from misleading sales and marketing practices. It answers frequently asked questions about the resale market and about making informed resale decisions. Owners can access additional timeshare resale resources, including checklists to use when reselling, resale terminology, ARDA’s membership list of licensed real estate brokers, and real estate licensing resources. Visit the Resale Resource Center for further information.
ARDA-ROC also offers a toll-free customer service number (1-855-416-6187) to help answer questions about timeshare ownership as well as the information on the ARDA-ROC website.
